Bio-IT, Cloud & Data Engineering Internship

Bio-IT teams build the pipelines, cloud platforms and data systems that research depends on. This internship gives you production-style experience: tested code, containers, infrastructure as code and documentation.

Dry lab4, 8, 12, 24 weeks · About 20 hours a week, flexible around classesCertificate with verification ID
A workflow as a directed acyclic graph, in nf-core process naming: every step is versioned, containerised and re-runnable.

About this internship

Projects include Nextflow pipelines, containerised tools, cloud deployment templates and FAIR data pipelines, built with continuous integration and reviewed like production code.

You learn the engineering habits that bio-IT employers look for and leave with a public repository that demonstrates them.

Example projects

01

A tested Nextflow pipeline with CI and container images

02

A cost-controlled cloud deployment of an nf-core pipeline

03

A metadata-validation and ingestion pipeline for sequencing sample sheets

04

Infrastructure-as-code templates for a small genomics environment

Eligibility

  • Students in the final year of B.Tech., B.E., BCA, MCA, M.Sc., M.Tech. or related programmes in computing, bioinformatics or biotechnology; recent graduates are welcome
  • Comfort with Linux, Git and one programming language
  • Interest in life-science data; biology is taught as needed

Selection criteria

  1. Academic record and relevant coursework (no minimum percentage is applied mechanically; the whole application is read)
  2. A statement of purpose of 150–300 words: what you want to learn, why this track and what you hope to do next
  3. Evidence of initiative: projects, coursework, code, posters or laboratory experience, if you have any
  4. Performance in a short, track-specific task (sent after screening)
  5. A 20-minute online interview on your motivation and reasoning, not on memorised facts

Application procedure

  1. Apply online

Complete the application form with your academic details, track and duration, and a statement of purpose. It takes about ten minutes.

  2. Screening

An admissions reviewer reads every application and replies within five working days, by e-mail.

  3. Short task

Shortlisted applicants receive a track-specific task: a small analysis, a reading-and-reasoning exercise or a protocol question. It is designed to take two to three hours.

  4. Interview

A 20-minute online conversation about your motivation, your task and how you approach problems.

  5. Offer and onboarding

Successful applicants receive an offer letter with the start date, mentor, project area and fee. Your place is confirmed when the fee is paid.

  6. Internship and review

Weekly mentor reviews, a mid-point check and a final presentation, followed by your certificate.
